ACT Government - Shaping Library Services in Gungahlin

MacroPlan Australia was commissioned by the ACT Government to identify a mechanism to create a leading edge, best practice, integrated and innovative development of the Gungahlin Library. The objectives and tasks for this project were:

  • To further define the services specification and functional brief for the Gungahlin Partnership Library, responding to specific needs and requirements of the Gungahlin Community
  • To assess the strengths and weaknesses of the existing Gungahlin Public Library
  • Contribute to the vision for the future of ACT libraries, providing a blueprint for integrated library and community life long learning facilities

The Gungahlin Library services study provided the blueprint for integrated library and community learning activities within the new facility, which can then be used as a catalyst to establishing future library services across Canberra.

The study ensured that the proposed Gungahlin Library development and future library developments were strategically focussed on creating library services that go beyond the traditional to meet the learning, literacy, and information technology, economic, recreational and social needs of the Canberra community.
