PLAN Melbourne | Melbourne Metropolitan Planning Strategy

Project name:  PLAN Melbourne | Melbourne Metropolitan Planning Strategy Location:  Victoria

Client:  Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure Victorian State Government

Brief:  In May 2012 Brian Haratsis was invited by the Hon. Matthew Guy, the Victorian Planning Minister to sit on a Ministerial Advisory Committee looking at a new metropolitan planning strategy. The Committee was established to oversee the development of the Metropolitan Planning Strategy. The main purpose of the Committee was to:

-            Provide advice and direction on the development of the strategy

-            Provide advice and review of documents and research being used to help inform the strategy development

-            Engage with key stakeholders and industry.

Chairing the committee was Urban Planner, Professor Roz Hansen.  Along with Brian Haratsis, the Committee comprised Chris Gallagher, John Stanley, Tony Nicholson and Bernard McNamara.

Result:  The Strategy outlines the vision for Melbourne’s growth to the year 2050. It defines what kind of city Melbourne will be and identifies the infrastructure, services and major projects which need to be put in place to underpin the city’s growth. It is a blueprint for Melbourne’s future prosperity, liveability and sustainability.

PLAN Melbourne was released for public comment in late 2013. It has generated significant debate and consideration of submissions is currently underway.
