Impacts of AI on the Property Industry – a presentation at the UDIA South Australia Annual State Conference by Brian Haratsis

On February 27th 2025, I spoke at the UDIA South Australia Annual State Conference on the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the property industry, including tools for property industry practitioners and the broader impacts for data centres, energy and productivity.

AI has led to an explosion in cloud storage and data processing in Australia. An estimated 183,000 sqm for data centres is currently under construction, with almost three quarters of it in Melbourne. If all planned and proposed data centres are built by 2029, approx. 1.7 Gigawatts of power capacity will be required in Australia.

AI and automation are projected to generate up to approx. $600 billion in total towards Australia’s GDP by 2030.

I believe AI has the potential to streamline decision-making and planning processes, greatly reducing the time and cost of development.
