Brian Haratsis is MacroPlan’s Founder and Executive Chairman. Brian is an economist and future strategist with over 30 years experience as an advisor to governments and major corporate clients throughout Australia.
Brian commands an unparalleled, on-the-ground knowledge of residential markets across Australia, having worked extensively and regularly in all capital cities and key regional markets. Brian Haratsis is regarded as Australia’s foremost strategic property advisor, with a particular focus on economic forecasting as it relates to private sector property involvement, understanding communities, tourism and social trends.
Chief Executive Officer

Michael Tilt is MacroPlan’s Chief Executive Officer. Michael is the second executive to lead the company, having taken over the role from Brian Haratsis in November 2010. Michael was Chief Operating Officer for MacroPlan from 2009 to 2010 and prior to that, he served as General Manager of Business Development and Manager of the National Property Research team.
As CEO, Michael has championed national growth and a company culture focused around excellence and innovation. Under his leadership, he managed the merger of the Strategy and Analytics Team from Pitney Bowes Business Insight, with MacroPlan Australia to form the largest economic and planning consultancy of its type in Australia.
General Manager – National Business Development

Joel Taylor is MacroPlan’s General Manager – National Business Development. Joel re-joined MacroPlan in 2012 following five years in high profile national advisory roles with Wesfarmers (with both Kmart and the Coles Group) where he undertook store network planning and site identification. Prior to his stint with Wesfarmers, Joel managed MacroPlan’s National Property Research Team where he advised on major projects, urban renewal initiatives and transit orientated development. This broad base allows Joel particular specialisation and understanding of mixed use concepts. The swift progression to State Manager is due to a combination of hard work and a commitment to achieving maximum results – transferring this extensive market knowledge to our national client base is now his focus.
General Manager – New South Wales

Wayne Gersbach is MacroPlan’s General Manager – New South Wales. Wayne has over 25 years experience as a town planner, with considerable experience at both a local government and industry level. Prior to joining MacroPlan in 2008, Wayne spent 8 years at the Housing Industry Association (HIA) where he worked at an executive level in a variety of planning and management roles. Wayne has also previously operated at a senior management level at Blacktown City Council.
Wayne’s policy skills are particularly tuned to the needs of industry and relate to areas including housing affordability, land supply analysis and planning reform. In 2012 Wayne prepared the Property Council’s National Development Assessment Report Card which rates the efficiency of state and territory planning systems across Australia.
General Manager – Queensland

Mark Courtney is the leader of our Brisbane office as MacroPlan’s General Manager – Queensland. Mark’s is an accomplished property professional whose experience uniquely positions him to provide leadership in property research and consultancy. He has considerable experience in the analysis and development of Australia’s industrial property sector, as well as extensive market trend analysis, feasibility assessment and land demand and supply modelling expertise.
Mark joined MacroPlan in 2015 following five years as a Director at Colliers International. In his role at Colliers International, Mark was responsible for industrial, rural and agribusiness research nationally and for commercial property research and consulting throughout Queensland. Over the past twelve years, Mark has worked on a number of high profile projects for a range of private developers and investors to provide advice on major projects, urban renewal initiative and commercial property and development. Prior to that, Mark worked as an economist, a company director, a hotel general manager and private business owner/partner.
General Manager — Western Australia

Stuart McKnight is MacroPlan’s General Manager – Western Australia. Stuart has 13 years’ experience in the banking, finance and economic sector and 12 years’ experience in the planning and property sector. Prior to joining MacroPlan in 2012, Stuart led the Urban Development Program for the Department of Planning and the Western Australian Planning Commission, which addressed residential, industrial and commercial land and infrastructure development across Western Australia’s high growth urban centres. As Director of the Portfolio for the East Perth and Subiaco Redevelopment Authorities, Stuart led the urban renewal team managing the entire project life cycle including business development, feasibility assessments, land acquisitions, master planning, development, sales, asset management and place activation.

Gary has had 47 years of involvement in planning and urban and regional development across New Zealand and Australia, including heading up the planning systems in Western Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. He has also held senior positions in NSW and Victorian governments, and been involved in private sector developments in regional Australia.
Gary is a proven leader in strategic and statutory planning. He is a visionary with a comprehensive understanding of all planning facets. His extensive knowledge and pragmatic approach to individual and unique projects enables him to analyse and decipher even the most complex developments, providing a practical and innovative solution.
Gary’s more recent involvement in major development projects on behalf of private developers and alongside MacroPlan’s economists has provided valuable insights into the drivers which enable quality developments to both occur and materialise.
General Manager – Gold Coast

Daniel Parker is MacroPlan’s General Manager – Gold Coast. Daniel joined MacroPlan in 2010 and has been directly involved in urban economic analysis and strategic economic planning for the past ten years. Daniel’s experience and expertise lie in defining and analysing key economic relationships, inputs and outputs relevant to a specific development or region. Daniel takes a holistic approach to strategic economics, economic planning and analysis and this “real world” grounding has influenced the conceptual planning of large scale developments as well as regional strategies throughout Australia.
Daniel’s experience gained across all major development sectors allows him to identify and understand the underlying economic drivers, impacts and interrelations that influence the development outcome of projects. Daniel specialises in economic market analysis and forecasting, strategic economic planning, need and impact analysis, economic modelling, input-output modelling and employment modelling and planning. As the General Manager – Gold Coast, Daniel can provide significant local knowledge, exceptional project management skills and strategic input to give a project direction and achieve an optimal outcome.
National Principal Strategic Advisor

TTony Carmichael is National Principal Strategic Advisor for MacroPlan & is based in the Queensland Office in Brisbane.
Tony is national lead on strategy development & strategic advice for significant MacroPlan projects across the nation. These include urban planning & economic development strategies; transport & digital disruption, social planning, & urban design projects.
Tony wrote Australia’s first Automated Vehicle implementation strategy for the NSW Department of Planning. He was one of the lead authors for Australia’s first economic & social impact analysis of the implementation of automated vehicles in Australia for the Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative.
He was one of lead authors for a ground-breaking tourism strategy for Cassowary Coast Regional Council that catalysed key tourism operators to seek investment in high value developments in north Queensland; & for the Greater Newcastle Economic Strategy that was a major element in Australia’s first Metropolitan Planning Strategy for a regional city being the Greater Newcastle Metropolitan Plan.
Tony is also a sought-after speaker on how technical disruption is changing city form, transport networks & freight logistics, architecture & urban design.
General Manager – Retail

Warwick has 23 years experience in shopping centre management, leasing and advisory. He has worked on a wide range of retail property assets from CBD centres, to large format, stand alone, strip retail, sub-regional and regional assets. Warwick has been involved with existing centres, expansions and greenfield sites and consistently delivered quality outcomes for a wide range of government, institutional and private clients. He has also worked with retailers on their property needs.
As a Project Manager with over 18 years of experience, successfully delivering projects in complex environments for multinational blue chip organisations, in addition to holding roles as a Construction Manager and Design Manager, Martin has gained an in-depth knowledge and capability to deliver both greenfield and brownfield projects with a focus on strong safety management in construction and meeting all client expectations.
With an ability to seamlessly integrate into a client’s practices and culture, Martin will bring an effective and pragmatic approach to the delivery of a client’s requirements.
The diverse range of projects and business sectors which Martin has worked in has led to a thorough understanding of various business sectors and their requirements and the ability to advise on them.

Bruce van Niekerk
General Manager – Operations and Innovation

Bruce’s role at MacroPlan is a dual role as co-General Manager of the project management business unit plus a remit to lead the evolution of our technology and big data platforms toward more powerful insights for clients. With a grounding in financial services marketing and corporate communications,
Bruce entered the property industry in 2008, working for a large Sydney based contractor, playing an important role in its expansion phase. He has also held business development and operational management roles in specialist construction consultancies.
General Manager – Victoria

Somma Sourivong is the General Manager of Victoria and has over 18 years’ experience in the Planning and property advisory sector. Somma has worked in Local and State Government (both Australia and the UK) including working at the Port of Melbourne undertaking short and long term infrastructure planning to accommodate current and future trade forecast to pass through the port.
Before re-joining MacroPlan, Somma was the Grampians Regional Planning Manager at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, a role he has been doing for the past 4 years. This role had provided him with a diverse understanding of the workings of Government.
Dr Nigel Stapledon

Nigel has a PhD in Economics from UNSW and a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from the University of Adelaide. He started his career in Canberra 1976-86, where he worked in the Commonwealth Treasury. He then worked at the Westpac Banking Corporation 1986-2003 where he was Chief Economist from 1993. Nigel has been at UNSW Business School since 2003 where he completed a PhD on the long-run history of house prices in Australia (1880-2006). At the UNSW Business School, he was Associate Head of School 2008-13, was the Andrew Roberts Fellow in Real Estate 2013-16, and is now a Research Fellow in Real Estate in the Centre for Applied Economic Research (CAER). He established and now coordinates the real estate teaching program at the Business School and teaches the Real Estate Economics and Public Policy course for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Nigel is a regular commentator in the media on macro-economics and housing.
